Navy Blue and Coral Wedding with a nod to the Chicago Cubs | Katie & Mike

Weddings

Today’s wedding is filled with a summery coral and navy blue color palette, nods to the Chicago Cubs, and of course lots of laughter and smiles. In other words, it’s a super fun one! So enjoy 🙂

Prepping for the Day

I remember Katie telling me that the color coral makes her happy and I remember thinking, I LOVE that that’s how she chose her wedding colors! If you’re picking your wedding colors, forget about Pinterest and everything else for a moment and really think about what color makes you happy. Whatever it is, roll with it and find a way to incorporate it into your day!

For Katie, coral took center stage in the bouquets and the bridesmaids’ dresses as well as in the groomsmen’s ties. She chose navy blue as the secondary color because it complements coral quite well (and as an added bonus, she loves the way Mike looks in a blue suit!).

Katie spent the morning at her parents house prepping with her friends. She was so calm and collected, just excited to get the day started. I love all the special details she added to her attire, including a special ring containing diamonds from her grandmother’s and great-grandmother’s engagement rings. Her lace, cap-sleeved gown was such a beautiful silhouette. And if you know me, you know anytime there’s buttons down the back, I’m all heart eyes!

The groom had his own special touches, including a ring from his grandfather from Ireland and a watch that was a gift from Katie. Each of the guys also had their own unique Marvel character cufflinks – in general, guys get far fewer opportunities than girls to add their own flair into their outfits so cufflinks are a great way to do that!

A Beautiful Stained Glass-Lined Ceremony Ending with Bagpipes and Bubbles

Katie and Mike’s ceremony was held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. I loved how the venue stayed true to their color scheme with the light wood and blue. And stained glass windows are always a beautiful touch for a church ceremony 🙂

After being officially named husband and wife, the couple was escorted out by a bagpiper (so fun, right?!) and made their grand exit through bubbles.

Colorful Navy Blue and Coral Summer Portraits at a Forest Preserve

Katie and Mike chose Heron Creek Forest Preserve for their portrait location. The radar had been calling for rain, but we absolutely lucked out and were able to stick with our plan! Right as we wrapped, the storm clouds came rolling in and the rain started. Talk about perfect timing!

I love how the coral and blue popped against the lush green forest. It was such a vibrant, summery vibe! And of course the people in the photos made things even more beautiful 🙂

A Wedding Reception Infused with their Love for the Chicago Cubs

Katie and Mike are huge fans of the Chicago Cubs (and even got engaged at Wrigley Field!) so they wanted to be sure to incorporate their shared interest in a subtle but fun way, without being too overwhelming. I love how they chose to do this within the reception, with escort cards designed to look like game tickets, table numbers corresponding to Wrigley Field section numbers, baseballs inside their centerpiece vases, and the cutest little cake topper.

I also loved all the personal touches they added to their reception, pulling from the things they love and things they enjoy doing together. The favors were homebrewed beer, wine and cider (made by Katie and Mike!) – I’m so impressed with the work they put into that! And they created a candy table for guests filled with all of their favorite candies.

The speeches were oh so sweet, reflecting just how wonderful these two are individually and together. And I think I officially lost it when Mike thanked Katie for being his wife. They are just so precious I can’t stand it!

The dance floor was absolutely rocking all evening long! Katie and Mike even had a few cultural nods with some Greek and Irish dances which were so much fun.

Katie and Mike, it was truly an honor to capture your love! You are such sweet souls and you more than deserve each other! Enjoy your highlight reel 🙂 xo
