New year, new trends! This month, I had the pleasure of working with Chicago’s one and only Debi Lilly as she and a team of top-notch wedding vendors put together a live lookbook of the upcoming 2020 wedding trends. Together they transformed DL Loft into a beautiful display of trends to help inspire your wedding and event planning for the year! And I’m so excited to share those with you today!
Wedding Decor Trend: Cascading Greenery
Drape greenery along tables and bars and on the backs of chairs or hang it from windows, mirrors, and light fixtures. This will create an effortless, garden feel to your event.
Wedding Color Trend: Pastel Neutrals
Pastel is the new neutral! Use a soft pastel palette as your base along with whites and creams and then add pops of color like these beautiful coral and peach tones. Adding colored elements to the tables like candles and glassware (like these beauties from Festive Frog) creates a big wow factor.
Wedding Decor Trend: Hand-Made Elements
Handmade elements bring such a homey, welcoming and organic feel to your event. Opt for handmade paper products like place cards, invitations and menus with torn edges to really embrace the organic, earthy vibes.
Wedding Floral Trend: Dried Florals for Texture
Texture is EVERYTHING in design. So embrace it this year by mixing dried florals into your fresh arrangements.
Wedding Cocktail Trend: Shrub Bar
A shrub is a blend of fruits or herbs with vinegar. They create a lovely base for refreshing, organic cocktails! Debi’s shrub bar consisted of 4 shrub flavors: Rose Geranium, Lemon Verbena, Sage, and Bay Laurel. The recipe all the guests enjoyed was:
- Drop a spoonful of a fresh fruit jam into a champagne glass
- Fill glass with champagne or sparkling water
- Finish with a splash of shrub
Wedding Dessert Trend: Watercolor, Pops of Classic Blue, and Geometric Designs
So many trends packed into this table of wedding desserts by the incredible Toni Patisserie! First things first, she used Pantone’s color of the year, Classic Blue, as her anchor point, infusing it in various ways throughout the desserts. The stunning three tier cake was the eye-catcher – she used classic blue over the entire cake and added beautiful artistic elements to it.
Then she made a simple square cake but added yet another trend to it: watercolor. Watercolor designs on desserts are so lovely and bring that effortless organic feel to your sweets. She brought the watercolor to life again in her adorable little cookies.
These cookies highlight another trend: geometric designs. The cookie itself has a gorgeous geometric shape and then she blends the watercolor design with some more modern gold lines across. You can see these gold, geometric touches again in the beautiful geode macarons.
Finally, she brought classic blue trend into a different dessert by topping her mini panna cotta with blueberries. Such an understated way to stay on trend in your color scheme!
Other Trends: Braids and Live Illustrators
Debi and team had a few other trends up their sleeves! They brought in Stephanie Reid Hair to talk about and demonstrate hairstyle trends for the year, the big one being Braids! And lastly, a really fun and unique addition to any event is having a live illustrator like Rosemary Fanti! Imagine your guests walking home with a hand-drawn portrait of themselves – how fun!
What trends above are you loving? Tell me all about it in the comments!
Cheers to 2020!
